The purpose of Delta Delta Delta shall be to establish a perpetual bond of friendship among its members, to develop a stronger and more womanly character, to broaden the moral and intellectual life, and to assist its members in every possible way.
It shall also be the purpose of Delta Delta Delta to promote and develop mutually beneficial relationships between the Fraternity and the colleges and universities where the Fraternity has established chapters, to develop qualities of unselfish leadership among its members, and to encourage them to assume, with integrity and devotion to moral and democratic principles, the highest responsibilities of college women.

Founder’s Day!

With the rest of the SoCal chapters!! :)

ed-hope:

Today I will be acting as a peer group leader for a session of the Reflections Body Image Program at my university!
Some background on the Reflections Program:

Reflections Body Image Program is the first evidence-based peer-led body image education and eating disorder prevention program that has been repeatedly shown to work, and is the first designed for and incollaboration with an international sorority, Delta Delta Delta. Reflections works not only on improving body image issues, but also on encouraging healthy confrontation and communication skills. The program was co-developed by Dr. Carolyn Becker, the local sororities of Trinity University and Tri Delta.

How it works:

The program is implemented among members in two two-hour sessions using highly interactive, peer-led, small groups. The program does not focus on eating disorders. Instead, it emphasizes creating and reaffirming a positive and healthy personal body image through a variety of structured discussions, activities, and exercises. By doing so, participants learn to embrace the healthy ideal, reduce their own body dissatisfaction, decrease “fat talk” in their daily life and recognize all of the wonderful non-appearance related aspects of themselves and others. The Center for Living, Learning & Leading works with Tri Delta members and campus professionals to implement this program among their members and on their respective campuses.

The program is so interesting partly because it works by creating cognitive dissonance in the minds of the participants.
One activity we do: create a list together of all of the characteristics of the “perfect woman” in our culture (toned but not muscular arms, thighs that don’t touch in the middle, a tiny waist, large breasts, etc.), and then discuss how unrealistic it is to expect anyone to fit this mold and what it would entail. Participants realize that pursuing the “thin ideal” perpetuated by our culture can be a dangerous waste of time and energy.
